Lauren's photography reflects her resistance to digital media.
The appeal in Lauren's photography is how raw and original it is. In many of her photographs, she took seemingly insignificant objects (but ones that had meaning to her) and placed them intentionally within the frame to form a kind of still life. Many of the items she would use were found by her as she went on walks in order to ease her mind and enjoy her surroundings. Once she captures a photo she is happy with, she alters and plays with the film to create an illusion of space that only exists in the camera. She does not edit her photos using any artificial means such as Photoshop, etc.
Lauren Semivan and her husband live an "interesting" lifestyle as she puts it, by choosing to not have common luxuries that most first world people have. They live in a 100-year-old, Victorian house with a high of 55 degrees on the thermostat. Their lifestyle may not seem comfortable to most, but it definitely inspires her unique photography.
