This past Thursday, my Digital Processes class put on our very own exhibition titled "Something Is Happening" showcasing our two best 11" x 14" inkjet photos as well as our customized photo books which contain the rest of our photos in the set.
My personal duty for the exhibition was to create the poster in order to advertise. I personally love designing posters (it's part of my love for Graphic Design). There was definitely a time crunch to make the poster seeing as I only had about an hour and a half. That may seem like a lot of time but when still teaching myself InDesign, it can be a struggle. But overall the poster turned out very nicely and the exhibition was a success!
It was great to see our framed photos side-by-side in the Mudd Gallery accompanied by our photo books. I felt that seeing our photos framed and placed right next to each other made them more effective in evoking a mood in the viewer. Also, having the complete photo book available was a great addition so that viewers could get a full look at our concept behind the photos we took.
It was a different expierence putting together an exhibition versus simply posting our photos online to Flickr. Seeing the photos framed, in person, and in an intimate setting created an appropriate atmosphere for the viewer to really concentrate on the individual photos and the concept behind them. Flickr is a nice outlet for posting photos, but having an exhibition was a totally different experience which enhanced our photos and the concepts behind them.
I agree with you on the different experience in contrast to the gallery and Flickr stream. For me the Flickr stream seemed a bit cluttered looking at 20 different photos. I liked the exhibition more because like you said, "It created an appropriate atmosphere for the viewer " and focused on the individual concept behind each print set.
